Terranova Prenatal Multivitamin is a nourishing formulation to provide deep nutritional support during pregnancy and breastfeeding. It provides 22 different vitamins, minerals and accessory nutrients as well as 7 MAGNIFOOD ingredients, designed to support the bioavailability, utilisation and function of the nutrients.
The formulation includes folate as L-methylfolate and Vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin. Folate is crucial for the development of a healthy foetus. It can significantly reduce the chance of neural tube defects (NTDs), such as spina bifida. Women planning a pregnancy should ideally take 400μg daily for at least 3 months prior to conception and then during the first 12 weeks of pregnancy, when the baby's spine and nervous system are developing. Research has shown that calcium L-methylfolate is a more bioavailable form of folate rather than folic acid as it is better absorbed, and not affected by metabolic defects. Data suggests that between 6-14% of the population may have a methylene tetrahydrofolate reductase or MTHFR gene mutation, resulting in a highly reduced ability to convert folic acid into a usable form within the body. Calcium L-methylfolate is not affected in the same way and is therefore suitable for all users, with the added benefit of enhanced utilisation.
The vitamin B12 used in Terranova Prenatal Multivitamin is in the form of methylcobalamin which has been shown to have superior bioavailability in comparison with the more commonly used cyanocobalamin form of B12, generally used by most other supplement manufacturers.
Methylcobalamin has been shown to be better absorbed and retained in higher amounts within body tissues, which results in more effective utilisation. During pregnancy, B12 has many important roles, including supporting red blood cell formation, reducing fatigue and encouraging healthy cell division.
DHA is an essential fatty acid required for both maternal health and that of the baby. It is needed for the development of the brain, eyes and nervous system. Terranova Prenatal Multivitamin provides 15mg of DHA from Algal oil (an algae derivative).
Manganese is provided as bisglycinate chelate using Albion Lab’s state-of-the-art *TRAACS™.
TRAACS™ stands for The Real Amino Acid Chelate System and is Albion™ Human Nutrition’s branded trade name for a range of its exclusive patented products.
The TRAACS™ name is born out of many years of extensive research and is reflective of the unique technology which ensures that minerals are easily digested and well absorbed, stable, and well tolerated.
Iron is provided in the form of iron bisglycinate chelate (Ferrochel™) which is an effective form that is exceptionally well-tolerated by the gastrointestinal system. As such iron bisglycinate is not associated with gastrointestinal side effects (nausea, constipation) in the same way that most other forms of iron are. Studies have demonstrated its superior bioavailability even to the extent that its absorption is not impaired by the dietary inclusion of tannins and phytates (which typically hinder iron absorption). Ferrochel™ is a premium chelate from Albion Advanced Nutrition.
Choline, a crucial nutrient for energy, metabolism, mental focus, and general well-being, is provided as VitaCholine™. This premium ingredient is made to the highest standards and is the global leader in choline.
This formulation has been developed based on the principles of synergy in which moderate amounts of appropriately combined ingredients work together for greater benefit.
Terranova’s founding philosophy is based on the intricate synergistic interplay of ingredients and avoidance of high doses of isolated nutrient preparations in favour of moderate amounts combined with carefully selected wholefoods, botanicals and phytonutrients which work together synergistically to enhance bioavailability, activity and overall utilisation in the body.
The MAGNIFOOD complex ingredients include: STABILIZED RICE BRAN has one of nature’s highest concentrations of the vitamin E-related
compounds tocopherols and tocotrienols, as well as B-vitamins, fibre, essential fatty acids, minerals and more than 100 different compounds possessing antioxidant activity (such as alpha lipoic acid [which also recycles antioxidants such as vitamins C and E], coenzyme Q10 (CoQ10), carotenoids and the antioxidant enzymes superoxide dismutase (SOD), peroxidase and catalase).
BLACKBERRY is among the highest rated ORAC rated antioxidant fruit and is a potent source of anthocyanin flavonoids and carotenoids (especially zeaxanthin, lutein, beta carotene and cryptoxanthin).
KALE is a good source of many nutrients, with carotenoids and sulphur rich antioxidants such as sulforaphane and indole-3-carbinol being among the most important.
BILBERRY is a rich source of vitamin C and the mineral manganese and is especially known for its high concentration of anthocyanoside flavonoids, which have been researched for a wide array of potential health benefits. Among other areas, these flavonoids (which provide much of the blue-purple colour associated with bilberries) may play a significant role in supporting the health of collagen and connective tissue, the circulatory system and the eyes.
PUMPKIN SEED is one of the most abundant natural sources of the important micronutrient zinc, as well as supplying good levels of copper, the most important nutrient to keep in proper balance with zinc. The seeds also provide a high concentration of healthy fats.
BEETROOT JUICE & GREENS from beets provide various B-vitamins (especially rich in folate), as well as significant levels of vitamin C, the minerals potassium, iron, zinc, magnesium, copper and the important methyl donor betaine. Among other nutrients, beet greens additionally provide high levels of carotenoids, especially lutein and zeaxanthin.
SPINACH is an excellent source of nutrients, such as carotenoids (especially lutein and zeaxanthin), vitamins K and C, folate and manganese.
